Website News

After a couple of updates, we were able to reactivate the Jetpack plugin yesterday and it seems to be working okay. It had been disabled for several weeks because it was causing problems with comments. The old Like button was also disabled for the same reason. The old Like button still isn’t working so we’ve enabled a new Like button that is part of Jetpack. Hopefully, there won’t be any problems, but if there are we will disable the plugin once again.

Website Maintenance

We’ve reinstalled the main part of the theme we use for this site hoping to stop an occasional glitch where the theme doesn’t display properly. There is another premium part of the theme that I can also reinstall but I would then have to reformat some stuff on the site so I’ll wait to do that in hopes the first part fixes the issue.

Update: The website is still experiencing an issue with the theme changing to a different display intermittently. I have posted a support ticket with the theme support group.

B&P Turns 17

Today, March 31, marks the 17th anniversary of the start of Bits & Pieces.  It was on this date in 2002 that I started B&P over on Blogger.  After a short while, we moved to a self-hosted WordPress blog.

It has been a major part of my life these last 17 years.  And I’m sure I wouldn’t still be doing it if it weren’t for the wonderful people that have come together as contributors, readers and especially commenters to make Bits & Pieces what I like to call our little worldwide neighborhood.

Big Peach Pit Stop Update #2 – Dinner

Dinner at Hooters with me (Jonco), Richard, DJ, Gary, and the ever so lovely Arianne.  We enjoyed 2+ hours eating and talking and catching up. Thanks to Richard for picking up the tab for dinner.  A great bunch of people that are very comfortable to be around.

DJ heads on down to Florida to see his 96-year-old mom who still lives on her own and I’ll be heading back to St. Louis Sunday morning. This truly was a pit stop for DJ while just a nice diversion from my daily routine.

I feel really grateful that these people and the ones we were with earlier all got to know each other through Bits & Pieces. I truly appreciate the people I’ve met here and at the BABBQs in St. Louis and our gathering in Las Vegas as well as the people I’ve met on my travels.  There are still quite a few people I look forward to meeting in person.

Big Peach Pit Stop Update #1 – Lunch

Lunch group from L to R:  Lilly and Mike (Chef-Bor-R-Doom), me (Jonco), Keith (Keith), Richard (Rick), Barry (Infidel) and last but not least, Don (DJ).  Click to enlarge.

A big thanks to Barry for covering our lunch tab.  Following a nice long lunch and good conversation with some nice folks DJ and I were treated to a ride in Mike and Lilly’s Model 3 Tesla.  Pics by DJ.  Click to enlarge.

It is really an interesting ride with its ultra-quiet engineless engine and autopilot mode.  It has a 310-mile range on a full charge and there are charging stations popping up all over the country.  The super-charging stations take about 45 minutes to charge and it costs between $5 and $9 to use. They can also charge it overnight at their home.   DJ and I were very impressed.  We’re thinking about splitting the cost on one.  We each would get it every other day. Some details might still need to be worked out.

Big Peach Pit Stop this weekend

The Big Peach Pit Stop in Atlanta Georgia will be tomorrow, Saturday, October 20, 2018.  The plan is to meet for lunch at 11 am at Ted’s Montanna Grill located near the Mall of Georgia at the Marketplace at Mill Creek.

Then tomorrow night we’ll meet at the Hooters at the Mall of Georgia at 6 pm.  Anyone who wants to join us at either of those events is welcome.  It would help if you reply to this so we have an idea of how many might show up for either gathering.

What we’re doing between those events has not yet been determined.

DJ and I will be arriving separately on Friday evening. Our hotel is located near the Mall of Georgia.
