Friday Firesmith – the invasion of greenland

(trigger warning for those overly sensitive readers ~ admin)

If you aren’t paying attention to why Greenland is suddenly becoming a hot topic, let me remind you of a few things.

First, reading is a habit I picked up about age four. It was, and still is, the most important method of retaining information the human brain that has ever been created. Video information doesn’t have the impact of reading as far as information retention is concerned, and if you have a camera and half a brain you can make a video.

Second, Greenland is the cork in the bottle, the stopper that seals Europe’s northwestern borders from Russian aggression. We, the Unites States, help operate, maintain, and use extensively, the passive sonar systems that cover vast stretches of icy ocean waters in that part of the world. We, the United States and NATO, keep the Russian submarine fleet under near constant surveillance and we know where nearly every Russian missile submarine is at all times.

Russian missile submarines carry nuclear warheads that target American cities and military installations.

We, the Unites States of America, are one stupid decision by an aging and slightly coherent orange painted elderly narcissistic felon away from losing this protection from the Russians, forever.

If you are stupid enough to think we shouldn’t try to defend against nuclear weapons that are targeting our nation simply stop reading this right now, because you are not intelligent enough to understand the threat. If your loyalty to a president is greater than your love of America, and you are fine with a nuclear arsenal aimed at your children, then leave now.

We can’t get that system of protection back once we lose it. The moment we declare war on Greenland we lose the faith and trust of our NATO allies. We can’t elect anyone who will be able to go to Europe and tell them it was all a mistake, and the Good America is back.

Europe will respond to all things American as an existential threat, as well they should. All trade treaties and immigration will halt.

Every military installation in Europe will be seized, or worse, will surrender to European forces.

If you think the American military will blindly allow American security in the northern Atlantic to be totally destroyed by the whims of a man who wears a diaper and cannot speak coherently on his best days, you are deluded.

We, the United States of America, have voted into office the one person on this planet that could create the conditions for a military coup.

Men who have spent their entire lives hand in hand with our European Allies to protect this nation are not going to sit idle while the best military alliance in human history is destroyed. They shouldn’t. They should do what they have to do to keep this nation safe, as our military has always done.

You want to know who I trust? I trust the collective of humanity who believes that the unity of free nations is more important than the personal ambitions of two elderly white men who are going to be tried for crimes as soon as they leave office.

If you do not believe this, if the wall falls down, and we discover that isolationism is suicide, I hope your bunker is deep enough to stop a nuke. I hope it’s deep enough to be the final resting place for Democracy, and the dream that the Constitution offered humankind as a guide of governance.  Across the world, people are holding their breath, waiting, wondering, and asking, “Where are the Americans?”

Where are we?

Take Care,

Mike

  1. The gloves are off. You can warm your hands on the ashes of your hurt feeling because the president you support is destroying this nation to keep Putin from releasing the black mail video.

I am going to use this venue to fight like hell for America.

    Expect me.

  2. I have been reading your posts for quite some time and never, until today truly realized what your political leanings were. I know now that you have TDS in the late stages of which there is no cure. I don’t agree with all his (Pres Trump’s) policies, but he is a duly elected president carrying out his duties that we elected him to do. You seem to have gone off the deep end this time, though, so I will no longer look forward to reading your Friday missives. I know that won’t really bother you, but I just wanted you to know that I feel you are no better than the liberal, main stream reporters for all the major news sources today. So…..adios, sayonara, good bye, etc etc….

    • TDS= Trump’s Defensive Sycophants, Trump Defines Senility, Trump Diddled Schoolgirls, Trump’s Dictator Symptoms, Trumpists Defy Sanity or The Daily Show?

    • We cannot learn, we cannot mature if we are unwilling to wade through a difference of opinion.
The truth is within all opinions: pros and cons to every opinion. Why? Because personal interests, personal bias, ignorance (not stupidity), and a lack of time to read absolutely everything keeps all of us from being correctly informed.
Unwillingness to concede that other people’s interests, biases, and ignorances have at least some merit creates the divisiveness that keeps the electorate going.
Mike may be absolutely correct, or may be a worrywart. Either way, NATO members are obligated to join forces against any country that threatens another NATO member. That’s why Ukraine wants to join NATO and Putin threatens retaliation if Ukraine is admitted.

But since you are unlikely to read this, you will not pause long enough to contemplate other points of view.

    • Using a label TDS created in 2015 to allow the typical defenders of Trump (“I love the poorly educated”) to shout out a word a pretend to win arguments when they had nothing to say is not the smart shot you think it.

Here’s mine: TDS = Trump Deranged Sycophancy. Indeed, he is threatening to militarily attack Canada, Columbia, Greenland, etc and TDS sufferer says “no big deal”. He just said he wanted to cancel the elections, and a TDS sufferer says “no big deal”.

I could go on, since Trump is devastating our name abroad, our faith in democratic institutions, our economy (I am an econ prof), and hell, even truth itself — since he lies every day in epic ways. But one dangerous example yesterday:

“The Insurrection Act……. the elder Bush used it I think 28 times”. Fact is George H.W. Bush (the “elder Bush”) invoked it twice, the last time during the 1992 Rodney King riots, and that was in light of 63 deaths!!!!!

MAGA is America’s largest and most dangerous cult in history. It risks destroying our nation. And TDS is its cult phrase to avoid facts and pretend debate victory. Cults do that.

    • Bet you think George Carlin and Will Rodgers and many others should never have made fun of politicians and stayed in their lane.
This present Maladministration affects everyone and if it gets it way there will be no more non-state approved humor sites either. And their idea of humor is to get the best of their real and perceived enemies or just watch them suffer.

      • Lones, it’s like those little kids who argue by saying, “Is NOT!” but they really know it is.

Things are going to hell in a hurry and the time to do something about it was 18 months ago.

  3. Funny how culties need to resort to “TDS” when their feelings get hurt.

Anyway, there have been numerous theories about his desire to get Greenland. Each one has their own veracity, but knowing how the Quid Pro Combover is a puppet for Putin, I can trust your assessment more than some. The fact that Putin wants NATO dissolved is a known fact and his ability to manipulate the Mango Mussolini to his whims has been evident for years. Anyone can see how he cowers and submits to Putin whenever they’re together. Putin is the one person where he presents his hand palm up for a handshake. A sign of submission.

    • CAI, I was hoping to see you here today.

I think the next couple of months will be scary as hell. Glad we’re back.

      • I was banking on it being a distraction from the Epstein files, (could be both) but I am fully aware how subservient he is to Putin and taking in account his enormous unpopularity, he is fully aware he could lose Congress. A Democratic Congress will put sand into his gears of destruction, so now I fear he will act sooner than later on Greenland.

While there are some republiklans trying to talk him out of it, the fact they can’t even pass a bill limiting his war powers shows how ineffectual they are.

People need to call their reps and Senators and tell them that if he invades Greenland, all white immigration from Europe to US will stop. That should make him reconsider.

    • Putin’s puppet? Is that why Putin wanted Hillary Clinton, Biden, and Harris to win?

Is that why Putin only invaded Ukraine when Obama and Biden were Presidents?

      • Is that why Trump Organization had so many business dealings with
Putin. Because he wanted Hillary to win?
For the Epsteinth time Putin was actively helping Trump in 2016 as reported by a Republican Senate Committee.
Bob Mueller testified that he was stopped from going any farther with his investigation’s results by Trump’s Attorney General’s Office.

      • Good to see you realize Putin invaded Ukraine. You obviously are not aware he thought he would win that war in short time, so that war has dragged on into the orange turd’s term. But have you noticed that of your list, only Mango Mussolini has denied help to Ukraine. Puppets help their master, not fund armies to fight them.

Might want to revisit some old video of Putin and puppet together and see how the puppet slumps, cowers and submits to his master. Oh, that’s right, you see him thru orange colored glasses, so therefore you are unable to see the truth, much less understand the facts behind that stance. It has already been established Russia had interfered in those elections, to the circus peanut’s advantage.

  4. Mike Firesmith. Done with your BS. Been reading your stuff for years, but you finally gave me a great reason to pass by your column.
I’m a proud American who loves both our country, and our President. Why don’t you consider moving to California? Maybe Kamala has a room in her new $8M home in Malibu that she’ll rent you.

    • Jody, I intend to fight in the very heart of red state territory.
I intend to fight until the existential threat to this nation is dealt with in whatever fashion it takes. I care not at all who comes, who goes, who had a nice house or who does not.

The invasion of Greenland must be stopped. If you love this country then you can see the consequences of isolationism or worse, war with NATO.

  5. It occurs to me that there’s different kinds of patriots.
    1. Blind allegiance to the person you voted for.
    2. Concern for the continuation or improvement of your own wallet.
    3. Understanding that another country’s sovereignty is equally valid as our own.
    4. American geo-socio-eco-political interests are paramount.

As much as I don’t want wallet shrinkage, I believe another country’s sovereignty is equally valid.

    • Bev, if we are a nation that believes in rule of law we must stop the invasion of Greenland at all costs. It is that simple.

      • Can’t disagree with you, Mike, and I don’t.
My big question is “HOW” do we stop this insanity?
Greenland is not ours, and I thought that imperialism died with Victoria and her descendants. And now we have Putin’s puppets trying to bring it back.
I’m more concerned that people say, “Well, s/he shouldn’t have….” When “law enforcement” (and I use that term loosely) kills somebody.
For the most part (95+ %), immigration violations are civil offenses, much like breach of contract. Would you deserve to be locked in a kennel or killed for breaking you cell phone contract? Do you deserve to be beaten, gassed, pepper sprayed, or shot for peacefully protesting? If a single step to the right would move you out of “harm’s way,” should you take that step? Or should you fire multiple rounds into a vehicle? Could you not just take down the license plate number and locate them later for whatever criminal offense is due for protesting and refusing to get out of a car when agents can’t give a valid reason?

It’s hard to know what to do right now. Invading Greenland is not our right, nor is it legal. This administration has already proven that the law is of no interest or concern to them. Peaceful protest (including cussing and epithets) are our constitutional right. The administration has authorized, nay…encouraged, the use of weapons against the citizens.

        Hitler did the same thing.

  6. I used to be proud of being American, now I’m not so sure. I have read and seen more hateful comments and actions since that Felon took office both times than ever in my life. There is no way that any reasonably sane individual would believe that armed proud boys roaming the streets of any town in the US is a good thing. These are murderous thugs and people with no self control. They have killed several people and seem to lie and change the stories to fit their own narratives. Now they are holding 4 Oglala Sioux tribe members and asking the Sioux nation to sign an immigration agreement. The absolute balls.
This country may NEVER heal from what this orange asshat has brought on us. His greed, his disregard for human decency and the law are abominable to say the least. His thinking he can just go into a country and take it, is greedy and childish. The people who still support him, are delusional and morally bankrupt.
I can only hope that our decent politicians grow some balls and impeach this prick. Make it stick this time. Hopefully they’ll send him to the Hague to be put on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity. For some reason he is able to get away with whatever he wants and flaunts that. It’s disgusting.

    • The reason he never goes to jail: slime slips through the cracks.
When people are more concerned with keeping their paychecks than doing what’s right, a slimeball head of state will use that to his advantage.
Most of the country is completely unaware that the Great Pumpkin has never made good on his contracts, has never paid contractors their agreed to fees. Instead he wears them down through protracted litigation until they accept pennies on the dollar.
Our culture too easily equates perceived wealth with intelligence. Just because someone is super wealthy does not make them wise, moral, or compassionate as a result.
If you don’t stick your hand in the toilet to clean it, can’t tell me the price of milk and bread, or are not trying to figure out how to afford your necessaries as prices go up and paychecks stagnate, you don’t know what most of us live. And let’s not talk about health insurance, because it’s survival if the healthiest and wealthiest…..

  7. The US has a problem if its president believes it is better for his country to turn away from the only countries that have stood by it, just to gain access to all of Greenland’s natural resources (oil, rare earths, etc.) for the benefit of the mar a lago clique of billionaires who are going to exploit them.

Greenland has had a strong US military presence for decades without any problems. NO, security, China, or the USSR are not what is driving the president to do this. It is money…

  8. It baffles me how so many people are still buying the bullshit the marmalade menace is selling. The lies he spews are too numerous to count, and it terrifies me of what he may do next. I’m ashamed of what this country has become, and weep for the future. Thank you for your insight, Mike.

  9. It baffles me how so many people are still buying the bullshit the marmalade menace is selling. The lies he spews are too numerous to count, and it terrifies me of what he may do next. I’m ashamed of what this country has become, and weep for the future.

  10. Mike, excellent point. trump is setting us up. Deranged trump has done so much to divide America. Americans vs Americans, the orange ass loves watching this country attack it’s own self, like a cancer, which trumpism is. I think his next stunt will be much worse than January 6.

    • I’m thinking the MAGA is worse than a cancer, more like transmissible ailments. Like say, syphilis or even the common cold. Fortunately many of us have an immunity, it’s called “common sense”.

  11. An European point of view:
Why do we have to send troops to protect a land from another NATO country? Wasn’t this NATO thing suppose to help us (all the NATO countries) protect each other???
If he (DJT) wants protection is easy – just show the european millitary where the threaths are and we ALL protect it together! Am I wrong?
It’s just my opinion and I believe (again just my opinion) that many of us here thinks alike …

    • he wants “protection” where he feigns it to exist, and even then the only solution is one of HIS doing, not anyone else’s ideology or making. Plus, his “Need for protection” is actually not-so-cleverly disguised as a resource grab for he and his cronies to bank on

  12. Did Trump threaten the delegates from Greenland and Denmark earlier this week when they met at the White House?

Are our military at our bases on and around Greenland getting ready for battle?

Asking because I may have missed those news items.

With what Denmark did to Greenland in the 60s and 70s (involuntary sterilization to decrease the population) is still a sore subject for Greenlanders, so I would not be surprised if they are willing to become part of another nation.

    • The truth is that despite what you mention, they prefer to be part of Denmark rather than the US.
You can look up the statements made by their leaders, who are also the ones defending Greenland’s independence.

    • Is there anybody Trump hasn’t threatened besides the dictators on this planet that he admires? Maduro didn’t fit that bill and look what happened to him. He should have giving him a gold medal. His favorite kind has chocolate in the middle you get to by peeling off the gold foil.
Venezuela is in such great shape now that the State Department has advised all Americans to leave
He has threatened our slowly shrinking away allies and American citizens, It’s his MO carried over from his business methods and learned from his mob mentors.

        • You are grasping at straws to make it look like you have a point. The people aren’t bitching about Maduro’s capture, but rather HOW it was done and now that he’s done it, the circus peanut has no idea how to con the oil companies to spend money there when it would cost more to rebuild the infrastructure than what a barrel costs. Oil companies are not about losing money, hence their hesitation to jump in, especially without guarantees.

Not to mention it was the circus peanut’s fault that the oil companies left there in the first place because he placed sanctions on the country.

Stop being obtuse and try actually reading up on a topic.

        • Tim, let’s kill the narrative and give us some reliable, shareable resources to back up your narrative. Submit an essay just as Firesmith has, and I will publish it. Same goes for anyone that has a source for a counter-narrative. I am open to all opinions from every side of the story.

          • Tim provide reliable sources??? This is a guy who believes there are quantities of men who dress up in women’s clothing so that they can walk into a woman’s restroom with the single intent to rape a woman. And what he uses as a source is a story of a girl who agreed to meet a confused teenage boy in the girl’s restroom.

    • Hey there Tim!! No, he didn’t threaten the envoys from Denmark and Greenland but that is a pretty low bar for the treatment of foreign diplomats.
As to what is being contemplated at the U.S. military bases, that would be highly classified and we wouldn’t know until it was put into action.
As to the sins of Denmark 50-60 years ago that is for the Greenlanders and Danish to work out, certainly not with help from the USA with their very checkered record on civil rights and exploitation.
      Just sayin…

  13. Thank you for sharing and not being afraid to stand firm against what’s wrong, even though you may be persecuted for it. This has gone on way too long and it’s about time that everyone who agrees, speaks up against it. The silence is harmful.
