End of an Era

We are very saddened to report that our dad, Jonco, has passed away tonight. Mom came home yesterday from work and found him unresponsive and with a head injury. He had a major brain bleed from a bad fall. He was ambulanced to a local hospital where they had to put him on life support. Mom and us kids were able to be with him. He ended up in hospice for an hour or two and died peacefully this evening with us all around him.

Thanks for being a friend to dad in whatever capacity you were. If you are reading this we know you are a friend and hope that you take comfort in knowing that he appreciated all of your support over the many, many years of running these blogs. We know for a fact that he considered you all part of his extended family.

As you may know, he did some pre-posting, by setting up posts in advance – so you are sure to see some future posts, that he had planned – we decided to leave them as he had planned them.

We would love it if you comment with a favorite memory of him, whether it’s a personal memory.. or of how these blogs have positively affected you.

Love to all – take a moment and hug each other, and crack open a beer and make a toast to our dad – Jonco.

  1. This news just breaks my heart.I am so so sorry for your loss.
One of my favorite memories was when people in the comments would ask WIHI. Refering to would Infidel hit it…..That was good wholesome banter.
It was a great almost twenty years.Thank you Jonco…R.I.P

  3. I’m sorry for your loss. Jonco was my source of daily happiness for the past 10yrs. even when smiling was hard to do, this page would manage to get a simple out of me. thanks Salut Jonco

  4. I’ve been reading Jonco’s B&P most mornings for 15 years. I am so grateful to him for letting me start my day with laughter. I will miss him so much. My sympathies to his family.

  5. … wtf … a few days “digital detox” and now reading this …

I can’t even remember for how long it was (that long it simply was) at least weekly and usually daily routine to cut off the worlds loud rumble and quietly enjoy (and sometimes loud smiling ;->) a few moments wihout heavy thougts on what he found for us! Within all years at www – his taste was and stayed an one of a kind … and matched (even on G+)!

Condolences & all best wishes to family and friends – keep in mind that it looked like he found at least a little self-fullfilment with this! And i personally love to think there are now some very delighted paws audible on the other side of the rainbow bridge!

    … bye Jonco … RIP

  6. Your loss is immeasurable. Perhaps the outpouring of affection for Jonco and his blog will help you. I am like the countless others who checked his blog every day, some days I’d come back to it again and again. A time or two I left comments. Jonco was good friend I never met. I keep checking the site partly out of habit, partly from selfish desire to find its all been a terrible mistake. Jonco made a point of giving us the funny without poking a stick in anybody’s eye. That, alone, made him a superhero for me.

  7. Oh how sad. I am so sorry for your loss. This blog brought a lot of laughter and joy to so many people. Jonco will be very much missed. I’ve been visiting this wonderful blog for a good twenty years. God bless, and may Jonco rest in peace.

  8. Like so many here, I have been a regular visitor who has enjoyed my forays to a corner of the web that has so often provided a welcome and friendly breather from the stresses of daily life. Your dad will be missed by many, even those of us who really only knew him from the other side of a computer screen. I know how hard it is to lose a parent, and have also had an unexpected death of a close family member in recent days so my thoughts are with you. Kia kaha from Aotearoa/New Zealand.

  9. I’ve only just caught up with this sad news. I’m not a daily visitor but I have read B&P hundreds of times over the last 10 years . My condolences to Jonco’s family. I’m sorry to hear of his passing but comforted that it was mercifully quick and peaceful at the end. RIP Jonco
