The fourth Thursday in November is Thanksgiving Day here in the United States. The First Thanksgiving was in 1621 when the pilgrims celebrated the fall harvest. They were thankful for a good crop and partied for three days. They were much younger than I am.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on things we are thankful for. Health, family, and friends are at the top of the list.
I appreciate the men and women who serve our country in the armed forces. Also the police, firefighters, and emergency workers. All these people put their lives on the line for us every day and many have to spend their Thanksgiving away from home and family.
I’m also thankful for all the great people I’ve met through Bits & Pieces. Quite a few of them I’ve met in person and many more I feel connected to by a kindred spirit. I’m thankful for my fellow bloggers from whom I get many things to post. I appreciate contributors to B&P like Mike Firesmith who has shared his words here for more than ten years. Thanks to those who send me things to post that they run across… people like DJ, Janet, Linda, Mike (from Spain), and that Gene guy, just to name a few … the list goes on and on and on.
I don’t think this site would still be here after all these years (it’ll be 20 years next March) without all the commenters. We’ve shared blessings and heartbreaks, highs and lows, good and bad. We’ve discussed, argued, listened, and learned other points of view on many topics. We’ve agreed, disagreed, and agreed to disagree on many subjects. But we still respected one another for the most part.
Thanks to those who have donated to B&P. Your donations keep Bits & Pieces afloat and show me that you appreciate our little worldwide neighborhood. This is especially true this year as we’re going to be upgrading our hosting space as we’re running out of the space we have been allotted. That alone is expected to cost $100 a month. There are many other miscellaneous expenses that seem to keep popping up. So, your generous donations are greatly appreciated.
My wish is that you have a good and safe holiday and can spend quality time with those you love.
