As for the Things That Aren’t Worth It article — most (though far from all) of the things are sensible but it’s a little hypocritical to say that “infotainment” is something to avoid when you’re writing a “listicle” of personal opinions. I’ve learned a remarkable amount online — I look back in wonder at how entirely ignorant we were about so many things in pre-internet days.

    As for challenging people’s opinions online — it’s also called being an involved citizen. I believe that by debunking a lot of the lies (including political ones or ones by politicians) I see online, I help educate some people and provide an antidote to the poison that is otherwise spread. In fact, I’m on Facebook solely because I know social media is a large part of how Putin managed to spread propaganda and disinformation and I won’t just sit back and watch that happen without at least trying to fight back.
