So if we wipe out the Aedes mosquito, what will bats live on?
Sure, bring back DDT! The chemist who invented it was given a Nobel prize
in medicine because everywhere it was used, it eradicated Malaria. Sri Lanka
started using DDT and the crop yields increased by 50 percent and new cases
of Malaria went from about 250,000 to about 16. As PJ O’Rourke put it, a
reduction of that size in a tropical hell-hole like Sri Lanka was a bif deal.
PS When they followed our lead and banned DDT, the rates of new cases
shot up to pre DDT numbers in the course of a single year. We were on the
verge of total eradication before tree-huggers using junk science succeeded
in getting DDT banned.
