Movie makers of the ’60s tried to predict what kind of dancing we’d do in the future.
They would have never come up with the Macarena.

I heard the Macarena was invented by a hillbilly looking for his cigarettes and lighter.
I think that was the “resurrect Col. Hogan dance “
They were accurate, but a decade or so off, and everyone should be in a line…
Well, it is a German movie so it’s not too far off. I’m assuming your post and all commenters are thinking of American dancing. So ethnocentric of you! Tsk!
😉
Looks like a mashup of the Hokey Pokey, The Chicken Dance, and schnapps.
Waitress, may I have the chicken and schnapps, please?
The Macarena has been around a very long time. In the 60s it was called “Hand Jive”. Twenty years before that it was called “Hambone”. It grew out of a general style called Hambone that came from various southern traditions, all performed with only the hands.

I don’t know what you all are talking about – that’s exactly how I dance!
