But what about the ooga-chucka guy in the background?
I read the article and was surprised to learn that this song, which I remember well, was written by JP Richardson, the Big Bopper of “Chantilly Lace” fame. The ooga-chucka guys were Richardson and country star George Jones. Richardson died with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens. Is George Jones still kickin’?
Yeah, the possum is still around and he…♫Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair.♫
All that George needs is a riding lawnmower…
Bummer….I remember hearing that on the radio when I was a kid. Very popular at the time. Another piece of our history laid to rest….
Yeah, it was a fun song. One that pretty much anybody could sing along with.
I remember this song from when I was kid. We had a whole album of these off-beat tunes.
don’t forget this one
