What TV shows do you miss?

Yesterdays post about favorite TV shows was interesting.  Today let’s think about the shows that are no longer in production.  Shows that we tried not to miss.  Here are a few that come to mind for me:

  • Television-124
  • Hill Street Blues
  • Cheers
  • The Shield
  • Sopranos
  • All in the Family
  • Everybody Loves Raymond
  • Seinfeld
  • Six Feet Under
  • NYPD Blue
  • The West Wing
  • E.R.
  • 3rd  rock From The Sun
  • Police Squad!

Going way back

  • The Monkees (A precursor to MTV, which I never watch)
  • Superman
  • Wild Bill Hickok
  • Sky King
  • Dragnet
  • Roy Rogers
  • Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
  • Red Skelton Show
  • Carol Burnett Show
  • Dick Van Dyke Show
  • The Fugitive
  • Get Smart
  • Hawaii Five-O
  • Leave It To Beaver
  • Ozzie and Harriet
  • People Are Funny
  • Laugh-In

I’m sure many on this list weren’t great shows, but I remember watching them regularly.  Of course we only had three channels back then so there wasn’t as much to choose from.

I’m sure I left out many that should be on the list in both categories.

What TV shows do you miss?

  1. When I was a tv junkie I had to watch ER, La Law, Dukes of Hazzard(don’t judge me), Hill Street Blues(hey, be careful out there), Happy days, M*A*S*H*, CHiPS I could go on.

Way back when: Gilligans Island, Beaver, Andy Griffith show, Fat Albert, Bullwinkle, Ultra Man, The Waltons, Partridge family etc…..

Mostly I miss way back when our whole family would sit down on Sunday nights and watch a Disney movie.

  2. Johnny Carson ftw. Cheers, WKRP, Night Court, Wonder Years, Carol Burnett.
Waaay back…Bonanza, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Rocky & Bullwinkle. (Hey Jonco, remember Lloyd Bridges in Sea Hunt?)

  3. I dont watch TV as much as I used to. Been too busy as of late. But I used to be a Star Trek Next Generation fan. I loved watching that show!!! I’m a big Patrick Stewart fan.

  4. Carol Burnett
    All In The Family
    Bob Newhart
    Bugs Bunny
    Flintstones
    Jetsons
    Game shows (70s and 80s)
    Johnny Carson
    Police Squad! (In color)
    Cheers
    Night Court
    MASH
    Barney Miller
    WKRP
    Seinfeld
    Friends

Shows before my time that I’ve only seen in reruns.. Honeymooners, Dick Van Dyke, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Munsters, Addams Family, Get Smart.

Too young to remember but I liked shows theme songs such as The Rockford Files.

  5. Stuff I grew up with and miss are: Mystery Science Theater 3000, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, The Adventures of Pete and Pete and Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

Shows that I’ve only seen in reruns but still miss are: Star Trek (original series), The Twilight Zone, Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, Kids in the Hall and All In the Family.

With all that said, I don’t watch TV too often any more (and overall, I feel too old for my age)!

  6. I really loved watching Boston Legal.
I was literally Laughing Out Loud every time William Shatner’s character was doing one of his goofy things. My GF hated that show because she couldn’t even watch TV in the other room because of my hysterical laughter.

  7. Guess I’ll go back to the old westerns like Have Gun, Will Travel (which many may remember as Paladin) and Maverick (preferably the ones with James Garner). But I’ll also agree with DJ on Johnny Carson ftw along with WKRP, Night Court, etc. The Thursday night blockbuster of comedy used to really be something.

  8. Not so old: Sopranos,Oz, X-files, Overhaulin’. Old: Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show, All in the Family, Green Acres,The Monkees, Bob Newhart,(1st incarnation) Carol Burnett and of course, Johnny Carson. When I was a wee dude, I loved Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space.

  9. Back: Arrested Development – I can’t believe noone else has mentioned it.
Way back: Top Cat. I can’t even remember much about it, but I remember I loved it and waited for it to come on on Saturday nights.

@vili – Ditto on My name is Earl

  10. The Wonder Years, Golden Girls, Kids in the Hall

Also Saturday Night Live with Chris Farley and Adam Sandler

  11. Lets’ climb way back into the vault: Ed Sullivan, Omnibus, Your Show of Shows, Rawhide, Howdy Doody and the longest running show in the 50’s and 60’s, The test pattern with the indian head…LOL

  12. ok, mine will be a little English, but again, here is my top five in no real order:
    Fawlty Towers
    Taggart
    Inspector Morse
    X-Files
Knowing Me, Knowing you… with Alan Partridge

  13. I miss Touched By An Angel and Highway To Heaven. Then going WAYYYY back, Lassie and Flipper..ohhhh cant forget Gilligan’s Island.

  14. I agree about Ed Sullivan, I used to look forward to watching that show with my family on Sunday nights, it’s too bad there aren’t any more variety shows like that, Ed always put together a great guest list, my favorites were the cutting edge rock groups, side by side with the comedians, circus acts and Topo Gigio.

    • Are you old enough to remember The Invaders? Just the opening sequence use to creep me out! Also, one of my childhood faves, Alias Smith & Jones. I also remember watching the Flip Wilson Show, The Glenn Campbell Show, Sonny & Cher, The Bobby Goldsboro Show and all of those crazy old variety shows. And let’s not forget Laugh In!

  15. I have just discovered some shows I didn’t know I was missing! We have some free to air digital channels and one is playing mostly re-runs. I have rediscovered Magnum and wagon Train. LOVE these two!!!!!

  16. Night Gallery, Outer Limits, Combat, FBI with Efrem Zimbalist Jr.,Gunsmoke, Spenser for Hire, Moonlighting. . .and most of the other shows already mentioned.

  17. Star Trek, Babylon 5, MASH, LA Law (except the Roasline Shays era, oddly a Star Trek alumna lol); Monty Python; yea Firefly; West Wing.

    • St. Elsewhere was great! I liked all of yours except Star Trek….. I never could get into that type of show.

  18. Leave It To Beaver had one of my all-time favorite lines when June said to Ward “Gee, Ward, you were kind of hard on the Beaver last night.”

  19. Combat, with Vic Morrow. My all time fav when i was a boy 40 odd years ago.
